Lokelani McMichael Bio

Lokelani McMichael, whose real name is Lokelanikuu'leimakamae, entered her first Ironman triathlon in 1995. She was 18 years old, and she beat out about 48,000 people to become eligible for one of the 2,000 or so spots in the 140-mile triathlon. The achievement also put her into the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest woman ever to finish the Ironman.

The fame she gained from the record-setting performance vaulted McMichael into the world of magazine covers and TV appearances – she’s appeared on the cover of Runner’s World, Sports Illustrated, and appeared in National Geographic swimming with dolphins, as well as making appearances in GQ, Shape, and Triathlete. Her “natural beauty” also landed her in the pages of FHM, and led to a second career as a model and TV host.

But, for the girl who at 12 was a member of her native Hawaii’s water patrol, a group of surfers who scan the start of the Ironman, training for and competing in triathlons remains a lifestyle for McMichael. When she isn’t traveling for one of her many modeling or television jobs, she trains up to 25 hours a week. She has finished the Ironman nine times.
